Under a bright sky and surrounded by the wonderful Tyrolean Alps, over 1,000 participants competed in the fifth edition of this spectacular race on September 2nd, 2023. But one story stood out: Frank Troffer's triumph on a 20" compact bike from the premium brand i:SY.
The E-Bike World Championship for everyone in Ischgl not only left a mark in the hearts of the participants, but also entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest e-bike race in the world. Frank Troffer from Karlsruhe, owner of a bicycle shop and enthusiastic e-bike rider, ventured into the epic race with his i:SY e-bike and achieved an impressive success.
The course, with a length of 26.3 km and an elevation gain of 750 meters, presented the riders with a challenge. While the rules allowed e-bikes up to a maximum speed of 25 km/h and a motor output of 250 watts, there were no regulations regarding wheel size. This motivated Frank Troffer to compete with his i:SY compact bike - modified, but still retaining the spirit of innovation and performance of the original.
With a heart of steel and an e-bike from i:SY, Frank Troffer managed to achieve a remarkable performance: gold in the time classification, 11th place in his age group and 44th place overall. But his story is more than just that.
A scene of true grandeur occurred on the home straight when a competitor suffered a serious fall. Without hesitation, Frank Troffer stopped, helped the injured man and then continued his own sprint. He only learned of his triumph after crossing the finish line.
